A few pictures

Rebecca recently got a camera for her birthday so today we were having fun taking pictures.

Here is a sample.

Some of these reminded me of one of J. R. R. Tolkien's poems; The Road Goes Ever On and On.

Next week is Camp Tamarack and I'm gonna be busy this week getting ready so I probably won't be able to post for a while.

Even More Lightning

Since the last one was about the Lightning, I thought I would do this post about the Lighting 2. The F-35 Lightning 2 to be precise. Don't worry this is the last post about lightning :) As with last time, first some facts and then pictures.

Manufacturer: Led by Lockheed Martin, others include Northrop Grumman and BAE systems

Max. Speed: 2065 km/h

Range: 1,110 km (varies between versions)

Armament:1 25 mm cannon and
Internal: 4 missiles or 2 bombs and 2 missiles
External: 6 missiles or 4 bombs and 2 missiles

Although you may not be able to tell, the F-35 is hovering in this picture. This particular version has a huge lift fan in the center and the rear nozzle swivels downwards and together this allows it to hover.

Lightning

Although they can be slightly scary at times, I find thunderstorms can be really exciting as well, especially the lightning. The other night I witnessed a huge storm which was hardly any thunder or rain just tons of lightning and I hadn't seen a big storm in a while so it was really cool. First there was lots of lightning in the clouds and then later there was some huge bolts that hit the ground and it would light the sky up like it was day! I didn't get any pictures but I thought I would search on the internet and see if I could find some cool pictures of lightning and put them on here.

This day in History - The Atomic Bomb

Life's been pretty busy on the farm lately, thats why I don't post too often but I wanted to do something so I did another this day in history post. Hopefully all this history isn't boring you guys :)

64 years ago today the atomic bomb was used for the first time. It was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima from a B-29 bomber and flattened the city, killing over 140,000 people. The story starts like this. Towards the end of World War 2 scientists in the United States were working together on a project called the Manhattan Project. At the time it was very, very secret. They were working on the development of the atomic bomb. Very little was known about atomic energy at the time, let alone how to use it in a bomb, but they worked around the clock and were able to detonate a test bomb on May 7, 1945. This was to be the only test. More of these bombs were then built and sent to an airfield within reach of Japan. Specially modified bombers were also sent to this airfield. The atomic bomb called Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6 and Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9. Together these bombs killed over 200,000 people. Although there have been many tests these were the only times that atomic bombs were used in war.

Here are some pictures.
